Greater Valley EMS has established a junior membership program for qualified high school students to become restricted members of the medical division of GVEMS.
The purpose of the program is to provide:
1. A potential source of new volunteer members
2. A means of determining possible careers in emergency medicine
3. Increased awareness of EMS in the school system
4. A means of developing and enhancing the maturing process.
The junior membership program is an opportunity for high school students to join GVEMS and experience EMS as a third crew member. Junior members are able to have limited participation in all of the services that Greater Valley EMS provides. Junior members are also able to participate in the training programs provided by GVEMS. Junior members that are certified as emergency medical technicians remain as a third crew member on ambulance calls until the member is 18 years of age and has graduated from high school. While junior members are not able to participate in technical rescue operations, they are able to function in support roles during rescue evolutions.
